Moving from mining to glass

Repositioning a silica mining company into the glass industry

Ventnor Resources were an exploration company that had discovered silica deposits near Geraldton in Western Australia. They came to us to conduct a rebrand. Ventnor was positioned as a mining exploration company, and we helped them reposition themselves as an active part of the glass industry.

The challenge

Mining is sometimes perceived in a negative light. Yet it plays a vital role in our technology-rich modern life. The challenge was making the company seem more technical and modern, positioning them as part of the modern tech economy. Ventnor had a unique, high-tech, low-invasive approach to mining and rehabilitation. We also assisted in the procurement in names, with the client eventually deciding on the ASX ticker code as the new name. VRX Silica. The complete rebrand had to happen in six weeks to align with their AGM.

Our approach

Using glass as the theme, we looked at making a visual brand that played with light and transparency. We investigated various methods of doing this, and then developed a brand based on a single pane of glass. Using shades of blue kept the link to glass and the feeling of lightness.

Our results

The final brand
The final brand looks professional and light. Geometric shapes and modern font interplay to form a brand that does not feel like a mining company, but something much more modern and technical. Stationery, reports and a website were produced that make for a uniform application across different mediums. All completed and signed off in time for the AGM as requested.
